Lake Galilee
In the centre of the region of Galilee was (and still is) a fresh water lake. Shaped like a heart or harp, the lake measures 26 kilometres (16 miles) from north to south and 15 kilometres (9 miles) from east to west. In the time of Jesus Lake Galilee was a source of both food and work: fishing, and all the industries associated with fishing, brought wealth to the area. In the 1st Century there were 16 ports scattered around the lake edge as well as many villages and towns: Magdala, Bethsaida, Capernaum and Tiberias are all on the shores of the lake. The Feeding of the 5000 is thought to have happened on the shores of Lake Galilee at modern day Tabgha, and the Sermon on the Mount is believed to have been given on a hill next to the lake, now called the Mount of the Beatitudes.
Lake Galilee is called by a number of different names in the Bible - the Sea of Galilee, Lake Tiberias (after Tiberias, the capital of the region of Galilee), Gennesaret and Chinnereth. The river Jordan flows into the lake at the north and out again at its south.

Levite
Like priests, Levites were members of the tribe of Levi. However, because they were not from the family of Aaron these members of the family could not be priests.
Levites looked after the music and songs used during Temple offerings. They also assisted with maintenance duties: guarding the Temple, repairing and cleaning it as well as helping the Priests wash their hands and feet before services.

Lord
When the Hebrew people come to the Hebrew letters יהוה (yod-heh-vav-heh, which spell Yahweh) in the First Testament, they say the title Adonai, which means Lord. (Jews are forbidden to say the name of God) The title was given to Jesus after his resurrection. It comes from a monarchical system: God is king, Jesus is Lord. When we find the title in the gospels we are reminded that this story was written after people knew that Jesus had risen from the dead.
