Chief Tax Collector
The Bible tells us that Zacchaeus was the Chief Tax Collector. This means he was responsible for supervising other Tax Collectors. Zacchaeus was therefore very involved in the whole process: being the Boss of the ‘disliked’, he was ‘doubly disliked’. Because they were very wealthy, one of the practises some Chief Tax Collectors did was buy up crops (grains) when they were first harvested and abundant. They would then store them and sell them back to the people at a huge profit when they were in short supply. (see Tax Collector)

Chief Priest
The Chief Priests seem to have been specially appointed ‘senior’ Priests who worked in the Temple. They should not be confused with the High Priest who was the head Priest. Chief Priests are not mentioned in the Old Testament. The name was probably used to refer to Priests assigned specific duties, for example, as overseers or treasurers.

Covenant
A covenant is a legally binding agreement or contract between two parties. In the Bible the term is used to describe the relationship between God and humanity. In using the word to speak of a covenant between God and humanity (individuals and nations), the writers of the Old and New Testament develop the notion of obligation as much more than simply a legal requirement, into one which emphasizes fidelity, trust and responsibility, built on a relationship of love.
