WELCOME!
This is The Bible Doctor....an online Bible dictionary for teachers and pupils in Catholic Schools.
However you have arrived here though, you are very welcome.
The 'working' of this site is very simple: just as you look up the meaning of words in a 'normal' dictionary, so this dictionary provides the meaning of terms, roles, places and people found in the Bible. Of course the possibilities for inclusion are endless so the entries in this dictionary focus on the Second Testament.
Finally, like all good 'lists of words', this dictionary is and always will be, a work in progress......we hope you see it grow!
NEW FOR CHRISTMAS 2011!
New entries this month!
- About the Biblical Genres: A new Tab, which identifies some of the narratives and recounts found in the Bible, has been added. This tab gives information on the structure of some common stories, such as miracle stories, calls stories and summary stories. TIP: The story of the birth of Jesus is midrash, a Jewish storytelling genre. Look it up!
- New definitions: A selection of terms related to Luke's story of the birth of Jesus have been added. Look for kataluma (inn), manger, Augustus, Quirinius and betrothed, as well as pictures of housing in the Gallery!
